Started playing with tablet weaving a few months ago. I started with a basic pattern from the Oseberg ship find, and got myself tangled up with the reversals. All the info I read was conflicting and I just needed to get a practical feel for it. Of course it didn't help that I wound a warp of about 5 yards (way over ambitious). The second pattern I tried, I couldn't make work after the first 10 inches.
After chatting with a few friends, I got Candace Crockett's book, and it finally pointed me in the right direction. I followed the pattern draft in the book, but my pattern doesn't match. It is consistent and I decided to keep going with it. I got 2.5 yards out of this warp and it's going to go on a gown for my sister.
