I got tagged a couple months ago as an artisan to make things for our EK royalty to gift to Midrealm royalty at Pennsic. I was deep in cranking out Pride favors and knew I had the Laurel regalia projects on deck so I didn't volunteer right away.
I put those projects to bed before GNEW, and happened to have more of the herringbone/broken diamond twill warp still on the loom. With 2 weeks before Pennsic, and my husband going away on travel (thus not needing to make him any new garb), my to-do list wasn't nearly as full as I thought. The personas for the gift recipients was Viking and their household colors and heraldry were black and white. Seemed like an easy thing to tackle. So I sampled up some patterns and came up with this.
It's the same broken diamond twill pattern that I used for my Lichen Brat. An absolutely documentable pattern that suits both the time frame and region of the giftees. I wove through what was left on the loom and had enough to finish 4 favors. Since the purpose of these is for their majesties to be able to gift them again, 4 hardly seemed adequate. So mathed and measured out what should be enough for 6 more, plus some wiggle room. I managed to weave 7 more, but when I washed them and hung them to dry, a bird managed to stain one. I refuse to pass along something that is already stained, thus I only sent 10 favors to Pennsic. No word on how they were received or will be used. But most folks are still at Pennsic, so this isn't shocking.I have been updated that people are connecting over the Pride favors. I had taken a handful down to PennLite and my campmates snagged them. So it was a great way to connect my long time family with my new community!
